On a mild day late in March, Megan and Mitch were married in a tiny little church in Tinui followed by a typically rustic woolshed reception in Castlepoint.  This place had ALL of my favourite things - beach, dunes and big old trees,  not to mention a wonderful bunch of people all excited to see the two families come together.  This is my last wedding for the summer and it's a goody.  Enjoy!

Laura and Ash - The Landing, Masterton http://nicolemarsden.co.nz/blog/2015/10/laura-and-ash---the-landing-masterton The uber-ly important task of choosing a wedding photographer should never be taken lightly.  In the case of Laura and Ash’s wedding, the weighty decision was left up to the 3 young ladies of the house - Hannah, Maddy and Izzy a.k.a The Bridesmaids. (I was lucky enough to photograph these ladies a few years back and fortunately for me they were happy with their portraits!).  The wedding took place at The Landing in Masterton – if you haven’t been there before anyone will tell you that it’s “just passed the dump”   Hardly a fitting directive when you discover what a stunning venue it is - and not a seagull in sight!  We couldn’t have had a better day – warm and sunny, lots of love and laughter and most importantly happy faces and smiles.  Congratulations Laura and Ash – may you both have many, many years of love and happiness.

Kate and Rich - Te Parae, Masterton http://nicolemarsden.co.nz/blog/2015/4/kate-and-rich---te-parae-masterton Rich surprised Kate on Christmas Day by suggesting they go for a run up ‘Big Hill’ on their farm – Kate was immediately suspicious as Rich NEVER runs up Big Hill, especially on a public holiday.… (Rich was considerably slower that day due to the weight of the large diamond ring he was carrying in his pocket).  Kate said yes both to going for a run and also to Rich’s ‘Down on One Knee’ marriage proposal.  Five years later now and they have just celebrated their union with a fabulous wedding at the truly remarkable venue hidden away in the back blocks of Masterton, Te Parae.  Such a beautiful old homestead set in the most amazing grounds; it even has its own lake as the perfect backdrop for your wedding vows!  The reception took place in Gladstone where friends and family helped decorate the venue in style – Rich even made the rustic old planter boxes that graced the dining tables.  The party was kicked off with First Dance in classic Kate and Rich style – they busted out their moves to AC/DC’s great party anthem Shook Me All Night Long – testament to the bride and grooms cool personalities.  Congratulations Kate and Rich!

Jane and Michael - Kouratahi, Kourarau Hill, Gladstone http://nicolemarsden.co.nz/blog/2015/4/jane-and-michael It’s always a tough call when the bride and groom have to make the decision to go with Plan B and have their ceremony indoors due to bad weather.  I must admit that when Jane and Michael took me WAY up on the farm to their proposed ceremony site I had my doubts that it would end up being there… it was a very exposed landing strip way up high on the Gladstone hills – the views were out of this world AMAZING but any sort of weather in the slightest would have made things rather dicey.  But as things turned out it the weather that day was totally perfect!  No wind, not too hot and with a nice high cloud cover – I couldn’t have been happier!  (I guess it was the same for Jane and Michael too).  After the ceremony the bridal party and I went up even higher - right by the trig station was where we got to play – I was a little sweaty palmed at some points due to the close proximity of a sheer drop that could have claimed the lives of both bride AND groom - but we did have a lot of fun.  The reception was down at a slightly less nose bleedy altitude on Jane’s parents’ farm – a gorgeous marquee set up in the same spot on the lawn that Jane’s sisters’ had celebrated their weddings a few years prior - Jane is the youngest sister and the last to get married and her Dad heaved a sigh of relief that this whole 'wedding on the lawn' business was now done and dusted!  Congratulations to the new Mr. and Mrs. Cammock!

Kate and Cam - Huka Falls Resort, Taupo http://nicolemarsden.co.nz/blog/2015/3/kate-and-cam---huka-falls-resort-taupo Kate and Cam met when they were both in 6th Form (or Year 12 to you youngin’s) so you can say that they were High School Sweethearts.  Cam got down on one knee and proposed lakeside in Taupo on New Years Eve, which just also happened to be Kate’s Birthday.  They did the overseas travelling thing for a few years together before deciding to get married in Taupo making it a nice, tidy full circle!  Roll on a few years and the day before the wedding dawned wet, windy and freezing cold.  This lead to all sorts of  frantic wet weather planning which thankfully was a complete waste of time as the wind dropped and the clouds parted to reveal Taupo in all her finest - the bluest of skies,  warmest of weather and the dreamiest lake for the wedding day (as you will see) giving us a perfect Taupo Wedding Backdrop.  A Pinterest Perfect day.

Latasha and Tinny - Ngawi, South Wairarapa http://nicolemarsden.co.nz/blog/2015/2/latasha-and-tinny---ngawi-south-wairarapa Latasha and Tinny met when they were both 15 years old.  Tinny would ring Latasha twice a week for months until it was official that they were Boyfriend and Girlfriend - (I can’t say I blame him – wait til you see how gorgeous she is!).

Together they spent a lot of time at Ngawi on the Wairarapa coast so it was always going to be were they would get married one day.  A few years later Tinny proposed to Latasha (aka Taco) at home in Pirinoa by writing on the bails of baleage

“Taco I love you – Will you marry me?

How sweet and very farm-like – she obviously agreed.

Their wedding location was a true visual delight – blue sky, teal ocean, yellow tussock and capped off with rugged cliffs – very Lord of the Rings.  Latasha arrived at the ceremony (fashionably late) in a very sexy red Corvette and wowed everyone in her sparkly sequined mermaid dress – perfect for their Treasure Chest inspired wedding!

All family members were hands on deck for this wedding (no pun intended) making it a very special relaxed day with lots of dancing and fun.

Congratulations Taco and Tinny!

Sara and Ross - Black Barn Vineyard, Havelock North http://nicolemarsden.co.nz/blog/2015/1/sara-and-ross---black-barn-vineyard-havelock-north Sara and Ross were married in Havelock North in early January.   Sara grew up in the Bay so it was a given that she would get married there one day.

The ceremony was held in the Iona College chapel (Sara and her sister are both Old Girls) followed by the flower strewn reception at Black Barn Vineyard.

Sara shares a few details about the day….

"I always knew my wedding dress would be traditional, elegant and glamorously timeless. I worked alongside the wedding dress designer and together we designed my Jane Yeh gown - the most amazing gown I could ever imagine.

Leading up to the ceremony, I wanted my day to be focused on spending time with our family, friends and future husband.  Black Barn provided a luncheon at Rush Cottage with the bridal party and both families.    This was a lovely time spent relaxing in the sunshine, sipping on champagne and having photos in the vines.  Our wedding was a truly magical day where we got to celebrate our love with the people we love and cherish."

Sara and Ross decided to have a First Look - this is when the Bride and Groom meet for photos before the wedding ceremony, it's a great idea if you don't want to be away from your guests for photos after the ceremony...(it's also good if you think the Groom may burst into tears when he sees his beautiful Bride enter the church)  This made time to go about things in a more relaxed manner, Sara and Ross had a bit of time together with their families during the day and Sara was able to get spend a bit of time having some fun shots taken with her school friends, they had a bit of a laugh re-enacting their school Formal photos, fortunately this time without the crimped hair-do's.  Poor Ross didn't have much of a look in with his mates as he kept getting dragged away for MORE photos.... I swear I saw his biggest smile as I said goodbye to them and was on my way home....but as you will see he did a stellar job.  And BTW - Best Wedding Cake EVER!

Hannah and Aidan - Tarureka Estate, Featherston http://nicolemarsden.co.nz/blog/2014/12/hannah-and-aidan---tarureka-estate-featherston Aidan asked Hannah out when they were both just 11 years old – and she said no.  He asked her again in 2008 when they were a tad older and this time she said yes!  Hannah and Aidan’s wedding took place in the rustic setting of Tarureka Estate in Featherston on one of the windiest days of the year, needless to say there were a few messed up hairstyles and also a few skirts aloft!  It was truly a collaborative effort from both sides of the family – Hannah’s mother and aunt made the wedding cake, the celebrant was a family friend and Aidan’s mother grew the peonies for the amazing bridal bouquets.  I asked them if there were any special highlights of the day,  for Aidan it was their first kiss as husband and wife – for Hannah it was the blending of their two families that made the day so special – oh, and also seeing one of her bridesmaids doing the Caterpillar on the dance floor later that night!

Sunbeams and Poplars http://nicolemarsden.co.nz/blog/2014/8/sunbeams-and-poplars Believe it or not this is actually a common sight for us - a lovely beam of light will break through the clouds just before the sun sinks behind the Tararua Ranges.  I have trained my children to join me in a chorus of 'Hallelujah' when we see this!
